Food Drive Spring 2008

Between May 5 and 16, the KU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi collaborated with the University of Kansas residence halls and Just Food to collect donations for local food pantries. Students were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items that would be shared with the ECKAN, Salvation Army, and Trinity Interfaith Food Pantries. Thanks to the generous donations of students, a significant amount of food was collected.

Just Food is a partnership of ECKAN, Salvation Army, and Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry. Donations are shared among these pantries.

Our food drive collected 1,511 pounds of donated food from the residence halls. This year in addition to working with the Residence Halls, we partnered with the KU Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). ESP collected all of the donated items from the residence halls during the past two weeks and stored it in a KU warehouse. This morning a group that included two faculty/staff volunteers who are Phi Kappa Phi members (but no Phi Kappa Phi student members) transported this huge amount of food to ECKAN/Just Food. We unloaded these items and then sorted them for ease of storage and pick-up by families in need. What a great team effort!!!!
