Pittsburg, Kansas Senior Wins Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship

The University of Kansas Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to honor Lauren Ann Zagorski as the winner of its 2011 James Blackiston Memorial Graduate Fellowship and the chapter's nominee for a national Phi Kappa Phi fellowship for which she is the winner of a $5000 National Fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi.

Lauren is a student majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Social and Behavioral Sciences Methodology (Quantitative Psychology), from Pittsburg, Kansas. The Blackiston Fellowship is the latest achievement for Lauren, a student in the Honors Program, an undergraduate intern for the KU Center for Research Methods and Data Analysis, the Alcohol Education Sanctions Program Coordinator for KU Health Services, and a former Principal Student Investigator on an independent research project while serving on a McNair Summer Research Internship. Lauren is the recipient of an Endowment Memorial Scholarship and a University Honors Program Undergraduate Research Award. Lauren has served an undergraduate research assistant in the KU Language Acquisition Studies Laboratory and has been named as an Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) Program Scholar, a Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program Scholar, and a Kansas NSF EPSCoR Scholar.

In addition to Phi Kappa Phi, Lauren's achievements have been recognized at KU by her election to the Golden Key Honor Society and Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology.

Lauren's other activities have included working in the ProWorld Belize Program and on Alternative Spring Break-Volunteering in New York City homeless shelters and soup kitchens.

After graduation, Zagorski plans to pursue a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the University of Iowa.
